UKZN

UKZN is a residential, teaching and research-led South African university located in the picturesque province of KwaZulu-Natal. The University is more than 100 years old and is a proud and rich heritage of academic excellence. UKZN aims to establish a value-driven organisational culture that empowers the Institution and its people to achieve institutional goals. One of its goal is to promote African-led globalisation through African scholarship by positioning the University, through its teaching, learning, scholarship, research, and innovation, to enter the global knowledge system on it. Henceforth, UKZN has an international reputation for academic excellence, outstanding research output and African scholarship. Research activities span the natural, biomedical, humanities and social sciences, which are integrated in four colleges namely the College of Agriculture, Engineering and Science, College of Health Sciences, College of Humanities and the College of Law and Management Studies.

 

Contribution to ONEPlanET:

  • Identify the socioeconomic barriers and gaps for Nexus approach in AU, including Global trade and agreements (Task 1.3)
  • Collaborate with relevant partners in developing the nexus systems dynamic modelling (SDM) for the food sector in the three African case studies: Songwe (Malawi/Tanzania), Inkomati-Usuthu area (South Africa) and Niger (Nigeria) river basins
  • Lead workpackage 4 
  • Recruit PHD students
  • Organise seminars and e-learning activities on ONEPlanET within UKZN
