ONEPlanET Project

ONEPlanET will hold a stakeholder workshop at Mdope Hotel in Mbeya

ONEPlanET will hold a stakeholder workshop at Mdope Hotel in Mbeya from February 15th to 16th, 2024. This workshop provides an important platform for local communities, government officials, researchers, NGOs, and other stakeholders from Songwe Region and surrounding areas of the Basin to exchange ideas, suggestions, and recommendations about the potential impacts and benefits of the Water, Energy, and Food Nexus.

As we navigate the complex interplay of water, energy, and food resources, this workshop will offer a unique opportunity for collaborative discussion. Participants will help shape discussions and develop strategies for the Songwe River Basin’s long-term development.

Why your participation matters:

  1. Heart of the initiative:Stakeholders from Songwe River Basin like you are at the core of this initiative. Your experience, insights, and expertise are invaluable as we navigate the intricacies of our simulation models. This hands-on workshop is designed for active contribution, not passive observation.
  2. Shaping the future:The day is structured to encompass exercises on validation, prioritisation of functionalities, and user experience prototyping. Your insights will guide the future direction of the ONEPlanET models and a tool.
  3. Valuable feedback:Your engagement will culminate in valuable feedback and low-fidelity prototypes (storyboards) that depict user experiences for selected functionalities.

What to expect:

  • Day 1 Morning: Co-Design of the Water-Energy-Food Nexus Models: Identify your specific needs and requirements during decision-making processes, and collaborate to select and prioritise the different nexus policies to be implemented in the models.
  • Day 1 Afternoon: Co-Design of the Nexus Models’ Usability and Tool:Delve into the usability and functionality of our nexus modelling tool by validating pre-defined features and developing user journeys of selected features for your specific stakeholder type.
  • Day 2: Co-Design of the Water-Energy-FoodNexus local/regional  policies :Identify your specific needs and requirements during decision-making processes, and collaborate to select and prioritise the different nexus policies to be implemented in the models.

This workshop is not the end, but a significant milestone. Post-event, the ONEPlanET partners will refine the models further based on the insights and feedback gathered. University of Kwazulu-Natal will ensure that the workshop’s outcomes are integrated into future strategies and models of Songwe River Basin.
