Africa’s green transition is more than just a shift in energy sources; it is a fundamental rethinking of how systems work together to support both the people and the planet. We are proud to announce that ONEPlanET has been officially featured by CORDIS, the European Commission’s primary source for research results, in recognition of our pioneering integrated approach to sustainable development.
At the heart of our mission is the Water-Energy-Food (WEF) Nexus. This framework moves beyond isolated, sector-specific fixes, instead building sophisticated tools and models that reflect the deep interdependence between natural resources, national economies, and local communities.
What ONEPlanET is Delivering:
-
🔹 Basin-Specific WEF Models We are developing context-aware models for the Songwe, Inkomati-Usuthu, and Bani river basins. These models account for the unique hydrological, political, and social landscapes of each region, ensuring that resource management is tailored to local needs.
-
🔹 Data-Driven Actionable Insights By analyzing complex datasets, we provide clear pathways to address energy access, food insecurity, and water stress—three pillars that are often treated separately but are inextricably linked.
-
🔹 Open-Source Knowledge Hub Transparency and accessibility are key. We are launching a suite of open-source tools and simulations, creating a permanent WEF knowledge hub designed for public use by researchers and innovators worldwide.
-
🔹 Empowering Local Leadership True sustainability requires local expertise. Our capacity-building initiatives provide decision-makers, researchers, and local institutions with the technical skills to manage these complex systems independently.
-
🔹 The Science-to-Policy Bridge We act as a vital link between high-level scientific modeling and real-world policy planning, ensuring that data doesn’t just stay in a lab but actually informs the laws and strategies that govern people’s lives.
A Blueprint for the Future
This feature by CORDIS underscores that ONEPlanET is more than just a research project. It is a strategic blueprint for how Africa can lead the global stage with solutions that are collaborative, inclusive, and deeply grounded in local realities.
By integrating climate resilience with economic development, we are helping to ensure that Africa’s growth is both rapid and sustainable.
